  • March 2 - Samuel Thomas von Sömmering - German anatomist, discovered the macula in the retina of the human eye which is responsible for central vision. The destruction of the macula is known as macular degeneration.
  • April 11 - James Parkinson - English physician, the first to describe paralysis agitans, a condition that would later be named Parkinson's disease after him.
