  • August 31 - Alice Cogswell - Deaf student. First pupil to attend the National School for the Deaf.[1]
  • December 21 - Thomas Graham - Scottish Chemist. Graham first presented the principles of solute transport across a semipermeable membrane which are what the process of dialysis is based on.[2]
