  • Louis Braille, inventor of the Braille code, became blind by accident at the age of three. While playing in his father's shop, Braille injured his eye with a sharp tool. The wound became infected and spread to his other eye causing complete blindness. [1]
  • Peter Baliff, a German dentist and surgical technician, invents the lower arm prosthesis.[2]
