  • The binaural(two ear) stethoscope is invented by Arthur Leared.
  • The ophthalmoscope, an instrument used to examine the inside of the human eye, is invented by German physician, Hermann von Helmholtz. Today people with diabetes mellitus are required to have regular ophthalmoscopic eye examinations to screen for diabetic retinopathy.

  • July 20 - Arnold Pick - German neurologist and psychiatrist, first described Pick's Disease, a rare and fatal degenerative disease of the nervous system that has major overlaps with Alzheimer's presenile dementia.[1]
