  • July 19 - Oberlin Smith - American Mechanical Engineer. Smith invented magnetic recording, the technology used today for audio and video recording and for computer disc drives. Magnetic recording is an important part of many AT devices.[1]
  • October 19 - Victor Babeş - Romanian bacteriologist. Babeş made early contributions to the study of rabies, leprosy, diphtheria, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases. Considered the founder of modern medicine in Romania.[2]
