  • May 11 - Tom Shakespeare - British geneticist and sociologist. Shakespeare was born with achondroplasia and is a prominent speaker and disability advocate. He wrote The Sexual Politics of Disability.
  • November 18 - Jean Driscoll - Wheelchair racer. As of 2008, Driscoll held the record for the most wins at the Boston Marathon, beating out everyone in the standard and wheelchair divisions. She is also an Olympic silver medalist.[2]
