- 2000 - Jean Driscoll, a wheelchair racer, sets a record 8 wins at the Boston Marathon. Her record stood over all of the standard and wheelchair divisions.[1]

- 1790 - Benjamin Franklin - Politician and scientist. Franklin was the inventor of the bifocal lens. Bifocals are most commonly prescribed to people with presbyopia who also require a correction for myopia, hypermetropia, and/or astigmatism.
