- 1973 - The first portable cell phone call is placed in New York City.Today, cellphones are one of the most important assistive technology and safety devices for people with disabilities.[1]
- 2008 - Ecuador ratifies the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and Optional Protocol today, becoming the 20th State Party to the Convention and thereby triggering the treaty's entry into force.[2]
