- 1880 - The National Association of the Deaf is formed at the first national convention of Deaf-Mutes held in Cincinnati, Ohio.[1]

- 2008 - Canada's Mobility Cup 2008, an international regatta for sailors with disabilities, opens in Montreal, Canada.[2]
Technology
- 2003 - Ossur released the Low Profile Vari-Flex, a prosthetic foot designed for amputees with a low build height.[3]
Deaths
- 1999 - Byron Benton Burnes - American teacher and deaf advocate. 16th President of the National Association of the Deaf from 1946 to 1964, the longest presidential tenure so far. Teacher at the California School for the Deaf.[4]
