- 1948 - Raymond Kurzweil, inventor and futurist. He has been a pioneer in the fields of optical character recognition (OCR) and reading systems, screen reading, technology for voice input systems, and electronic keyboard instruments.[1]
- 1953 - Nabil Shaban - British actor. Shaban founded Graeae Theater Company (pronounced 'grey-eye'), a theatre group which promotes performers with disabilities.
Deaths
- 1915 - Fanny Crosby - American blind lyricist and political lobbyist. Crosby was best known for the over 9,000 Protestant Christian hymns that she wrote. She was also a lobbyist for the education of the blind and a teacher at the New York Institute for the Blind, now known as the New York Institute for Special Education.[1]
