  • 1985 - William J. Schroeder becomes the first patient to receive an artificial heart and leave the hospital. Unfortunately, Schroeder later died from complications of his surgery.

  • 1660 - Friedrich Hoffmann - German physician, first to recognize the regulatory role of the nervous system.
  • 1834 - Hermann Snellen - Dutch ophthalmologist, introduced the Snellen chart to study visual acuity.
