Deaths

  • 1941 - Sir Frederick Grant Banting - Medical scientist, won Nobel Prize in Medicine for the co-discovery of insulin. Insulin is used to treat diabetes which can cause blindness.
  • 1968 - Howard Walter Florey - Australian pharmacologist, won Nobel Prize in Medicine for his role in the extraction and mass production of penicillin. During World War II, penicillin made a major difference in the number of deaths and amputations caused by infected wounds.
