- 1873 - Gerhard Hansen discovers Mycobacterium leprae, the cause of leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease.[1]
- 1896 - Bernard Jean Antonin Marfan, a French physician, first publishes a report on what will be known as Marfan syndrome, a disorder that cause abnormal growth, speech impediments, and visual impairments.[2]
- 1958 - Charles Strunk files a patent for "a writing guide for the blind, so that persons whose sight is affected to an extent that they cannot clearly determine whether the lines they are writing are parallel, may write neat letters in a ready and simple manner."[3]
- 2007 - Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Welsh wheelchair athlete and TV presenter, announces her retirement from wheelchair racing.[1]
- 2008 - Touch Bionics signs U.S. distribution agreement with Southern Prosthetic Supply (SPS) to distribute the i-LIMB, the world's first commercially available bionic hand.[4]

- 1896 - Philip Showater Hench - American physician. Won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1950 along with E.C. Kendall and T. Reichstein for pioneering the use of cortisone for arthritis.[5]

- 1769 - Antoine Ferrein - French surgeon and anatomist. Coined the term "vocal chords".[6]
- 1929 - Clemens von Pirquet - Austrian pathologist. Coined the term "allergy.[7]
