Gallaudet University is the world's only university in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students. It is located in Washington, DC. The University admits primarily deaf and hard of hearing students, though it also attracts hearing graduate students who are interested in fields involving professional service provision to deaf and hard of hearing people.

Gallaudet University was founded in 1864 by an Act of Congress, and its charter was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
