  • 1964 - Charles Dotter and his trainee perform the first intentional percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, or mechanical widening in opening blood vessels other than the coronary arteries. The first patient was Laura Shaw, an 82-year-old woman who was admitted to the University of Oregon Hospital with a painful left foot.[1]
