- 2008 - The first ruling on golf course accessibility. The U.S. District Court in San Fransico rules that Marriott International violated the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 "by failing to provide accessible golf carts as a reasonable accommodation for plaintiffs." [1]

- 1857 - William Seward Burroughs, inventor of the first practical adding machine. Today, calculators are particularly useful for people with math-related learning disabilities, and printing calculators are useful for people who have trouble writing by hand. [2] [3]
Deaths
- 1830 - Samuel Thomas von Sömmering - German anatomist, discovered the macula in the retina of the human eye which is responsible for central vision. The destruction of the macula is known as macular degeneration.
- 1995 - David Peikoff - Canadian deaf advocate. Charter member of the Canadian Association of the Deaf. He was a prolific fundraiser who began a scholarship for deaf Canadians wishing to attend Gallaudet University.[4]
