Births
- 1882 - Franklin D. Roosevelt - 32nd President of the United States. Roosevelt was stricken with polio which left him partially paralyzed at the age of 39. He was a fierce fighter against his illness and for his country and was famous for founding the March of Dimes. One of his most famous quotes - "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."[1]
Deaths
- 1913 - James Henderson Berry - American politician. Berry was elected Governor of Arkansas in 1882. During the Civil War, he was a member of the Confederate Army and was wounded at the battle of Corinth leading to the eventually amputation of his right leg.[2]
