- 1939 - Lou Gehrig, recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, tells a crowd at Yankee Stadium who had gathered to recognize Gehrig, that he considers himself "The luckiest man on the face of the earth".[1]
Births
- 1854 - Victor Babeş - Romanian bacteriologist. Babeş made early contributions to the study of rabies, leprosy, diphtheria, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases. Considered the founder of modern medicine in Romania.[2]
