• 1998 - Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 becomes effective. It requires "manufacturers of telecommunications equipment and providers of telecommunications services to ensure that such equipment and services are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities, if readily achievable. [1]

• 2008 - AAPD Presented 2008 Henry B. Betts Award to International Human Rights Disability Advocate Eric Rosenthal.^[1]

• 2008 - the Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Justice (DOJ) released new guidance reinforcing the right of people with disabilities to make "reasonable modifications" to their dwellings if a structural change to their dwelling or to a common area of the building or complex in which they live is needed so that they can fully enjoy the premises.^[2]
