The National Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame (NWBHF) serves to honor the men and women whose outstanding contributions to the sport of Wheelchair Basketball.
History
The NWBHF was established as part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) at the 25th anniversary of the NWBA in 1973. Originally, the Hall did not have a home although members were inducted every year at the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament Awards Banquet.
Meanwhile, the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Hall of Fame was located at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1978, a series of letters between then NWBA Commissioner Stan Labanowich and the Executive Director of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A year of negotiations later, and the NWBAHF had a new home. The display was formally dedicated on October 19, 1990.
