Schizophrenia is a severe, lifelong brain disorder. Symptoms may include auditory delusions (hearing voices), visual halucinations, and paranoia. Other symptoms may include movement disorders, difficulty speaking and expressing emotion, and problems with attention, memory, and organization.

The cause is unknown. Symptoms usually start in the late teens and early 20s for men, and in the mid-20s to early 30s for women.
