  • 1908 - Michael DeBakey - American surgeon and researcher, proposed the Mobile Army Sugical Hospitals (MASH) and performed the first successful carotid endarterectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the blockage in the lining of an artery. At the age of 97, he was the oldest patient to undergo the surgery for which he was responsible.
  • 1924 - Daniel Inouye - long-serving Senator for Hawaii and disabled veteran (amputee).
