Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. v. Williams

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision on January 8, 2002, ruled that certain impairments – in this case, carpal tunnel syndrome - were not covered under ADA since it did not "substantially limit a major life activity". Only the tasks associated with her job were impacted. This court case further defined which types of impairment are considered a 'disability' under the ADA. This definition may now be changing with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act in 2008.
